It is not the first time that the Italian travel blogger writes about Tirana and Albania. Recently she shared the article about what to do in a weekend in Tirana, where she recommends our website www.visit-tirana.com as the tourist board of Tirana.
Tirana has changed so much in the past few years as Francesca confesses: “ Forget the gray Soviet-style buildings, Tirana few years has completely redone the look. Although not in the list of classic destinations to spend a weekend, the Albanian capital deserves a visit. It is close, cheap and offers a wide variety of things to see. If you are tired of the usual destinations and inflated, therefore, Tirana is the place for you.”
The city tour starts from Skanderbeg Square , the heart of Tirana, the center of which stands the Albanian national hero statue in '400 defended Europe from the Ottoman attacks. On the square facing the most famous buildings: the mosque Et'Ehm Bey , l ' Opera , the National Library and the National Historical Museum , which tells the history of Albania from the Paleolithic to the present.
After lunch, two monuments: Ura and Tabakeve , the bridge of the tanners, a splendid example of Ottoman architecture, and Piramida , the former mausoleum of the dictator Enver Hoxha who occasionally hosts interesting cultural events. Behind the pyramid is Blloku , the coolest area of Tirana, the former communist elite neighborhood.
She also gives some recommendations about where to eat and sleep in Tirana.
