Chasing the Donkey, a travel website recently launched an
article with tips about what to visit in Albania, and in the capital city, Tirana. For
most of visitors Tirana is the starting point and “Chasing the Donkey” recommends
exploring our city, because it’s the perfect place to get to know the country. Furthermore,
Tirana is the city of many cultural and historical institutions, and
discovering them is something one shouldn't miss. Landmarks that you definitely should
visit in Tirana are: Et’hem Bey Mosque, the Skanderbeg Square and the National
Historical Museum.
Et’hem Bey Mosque: A unique mosque situated in the very
heart of Tirana. Visitors can see the wonderful architecture of the
mosque and its exquisite decorations of wall and ceiling paintings from
oriental traditions. The frescoes of the mosque depict trees, waterfalls and
bridges, still life paintings that are a rarity in Islamic art.
Skanderbeg Monument in Skanderbeg Square has been regarded
for more than half a century as the very centre of Tirana. The square that
bears his name is a meeting place for all Albanians.
The National Historical Museum: If you are keen to know the
turbulent history of the Albanians, this is the place to visit. The National
History Museum is the most important museum in Albania and contains a
well-documented history of the country.
